The Endocrine Edge is a monthly update from The Endocrine Society, the largest and most active professional organization of endocrinologists in the world. As the nation continues to look for ways to control this growing epidemic, endocrine researchers are leading the way to a better understanding of obesity and related health conditions, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Clinical endocrinologists are also working to control the devastating health affects of severe obesity. The Endocrine Edge provides you – members of the public– with a peak at data, analysis and information on obesity and other endocrine-related conditions.

The Hormone Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization established by The Endocrine Society in 1997. Its mission is to serve as a resource for the public by promoting the prevention, treatment and cure of hormone-related conditions through public outreach and education. The Foundation launched the Hormones & You series of bilingual patient fact sheets covering a wide range of hormone-related conditions that affect the health of men, women and children. These fact sheets are published each month in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism and bi-monthly in Endocrine News (Endocrine Society publications).

Comments on Medicare Revisions
The Endocrine Society applauds the new Medicare coverage policy that was announced yesterday by Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tommy Thompson. The revised policy will remove barriers to covering anti-obesity interventions if scientific and medical evidence demonstrate improved health in Medicare beneficiaries.
